Michelin's 1000 Charming Hotels and Guesthouses features a selection of establishments at reasonable prices throughout France, chosen by our inspectors for their authenticity, character, warmth and setting. The most expensive rooms cost no more than 110 euros; most of the prices are below 80 euros and a third of the establishments offer rooms for less than 50 euros. A few words, indicated by our 'We Most Liked' symbol, highlight the little extra that we particularly like: 'Exploring the underwater depths of the Scandola nature reserve', for example
How the Guide Works
The guide is divided into 19 French regions. Within these regions, the establishments are listed in ascending order of the number of the department. Within the department, towns or villages where we list an establishment are given in alphabetical order the establishments are numbered in this order. Hotels are marked in blue and maisons d'hote in red.
The maps of France at the beginning of the guide show the 19 regions and their departments. At the beginning of each chapter is a regional map with the hotels marked as blue dots and the maisons d'hote as red dots.
