What do you give an elderly mother who says she has everything? Abigail Timberlake, owner of the Den of Antiquity, thinks she has just the ticket. Literally. While browsing through an online catalogue of Chinese antiques, our intrepid heroine had chanced upon an exquisitely carved rosewood linen chest that dates to the seventeenth century. By bargaining, as one dealer to another, she’d been able to get a good deal on the chest, and that included shipping the chest from Hong Kong to Charleston, South Carolina. Now with ticket-er, invoice-in hand, Abby shows up at the port to collect Mama’s birthday present. Much to Abigail Timberlake’s horror, she is actually arrested by the federal agents. Her first phone call is to her husband, Greg, a former detective in the Charlotte, NC Police Department. But as he is quick to remind her, his contacts in the “good old boy system” do not extend to the long arm of United States jurisprudence. Thus begins Abigail Timberlake’s most intensive and extensive investigation yet. Unfortunately what she uncovers is an ivory-smuggling ring that extends from Charleston to Memphis and from Savannah all the way up to our nation’s capitol. And this time she may have bitten off more than she can chew.
