Caterer Faith Fairchild likes spending time with her husband, the Reverend Thomas Fairchild’s, family--but like most in-laws, they’re better in small doses. So when Thomas’s father insists that the Fairchild clan celebrate his 70th birthday with a weeklong stay in the Vermont slopes, Faith hopes that she can derive some enjoyment from the beautiful surroundings--despite her less-than passionate feelings for winter sports. The Fairchild family has been staying at the Pine Slopes resort since Thomas and his siblings were toddlers. And Faith’s brother-in-law Craig has recently invested in the property--much to his new, beautiful wife’s dismay. All is well as the family settles in to enjoy the slopes, the pool, the sauna and the Jacuzzi, but when Faith stumbles upon the dead body of an older semi-retired local lawyer in a snowdrift, it’s a portent of things to come. Soon Pine Slope’s star chef vanishes without a trace, and, combined with the lack of snowfall, Craig’s investment looks like an ill-advised move after all. Faith saves the day, by agreeing to put her culinary skills to work to whip up a birthday feast for her father-in-law. But even the most hardy skiers don’t stick around when they awake to find the slopes covered with red-hued snow--the result of a body falling, or being pushed, into the water supply for the snow-making machine. Faith must get to the bottom of this recent crime spree, if she wants to salvage the reunion, and the Pine Slopes resort.
