Descrição

When Conrad Kerr, prestigious Columbus Lawyer, sees the obituary of childhood friend, college roommate and draft dodger, Deacon Thomas, in the Columbus Dispatch, he begins a geographical and emotional journey introducing him to a people and landscape that will ultimately transform his predictable, upper class life.

This book is set in the mid-1990s, primarily in Morgan County, Ohio. The discovery of Deacon’s remains in southern Colorado, and subsequent burial brings together a group of high school friends, Morgan County relatives and other assorted locals.

The group gathered in Chesterhill perform a post-mortem of sorts on the extant detritus of Deacon Thomas’s brief life contained in a box Connie has held for twenty-five years.

They discover his writings for English Seminars, the only academic work produced during three quarters at OSU.

They listen to Deacon’s stories, tales told by his relatives and visit sites—Big Bottom Massacre, Hook’s grave and Morgan’s Raid Farm.
