Daniel and Serga Nadler have one of the most comprehensive collections of silver jewellery. Their collecting started 25 years ago and their interest grew as they acquired more pieces. Wherever they worked or travelled they always looked for another piece. 'Silver: From Fetish to Fashion' combines their skills as photographers and as scholars as they provide a light-hearted but informative text about the jewellery. The Nadlers begin their random walk around the globe in Egypt where they started collecting, continue to Tunisia and the Western Maghred, before returning to the Middle East. They proceed from Greece and turkey, Russia and the Caucasus and Turkmenistan, before diving into the incredible profusion of the Indian subcontinent. After a brief look at Indonesia they survey the bold jewellery of the hill tribes of Burma, Thailand and Southern China. Crossing the Pacific they include the Navahos, Hopis and Zunis and then the Art Nouveau of Taxco, Mexica. A brief discussion of current jewellery concludes the book. The Nadlers view silver jewellery as wearable art. They illustrate this perspective by beginning the book with a model wearing magnificent pieces from many cultures. Their point is that most of their collection will enhance the allure of any modern woman. This angle has drawn them support in the wonder introductions by John Loring, Design Director of Tiffany & o., Harold Koda, Curator of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum in New York and Oscar de la Renta, the icon of the fashion world.
